9 Texas Principal Competencies represented in Movie Quotes? #txidea #masters #education #principal

This is for my Master's Class portfolio at Dallas Baptist University. I have collected 9 movie quotes to help symbolize or embody some of the themes of each of the nine Texas principal competencies. Let me know your thoughts...

#1 -  The Wizard in The Wizard of Oz, “Back where I come from we have universities, seats of great learning, where men go to become great thinkers.  And when they come out, they think deep thoughts and with no more brains than you have.  But they have one thing you haven't got, a diploma.”

#2 - Scarlett Johansson in We Bought a Zoo, “The secret to talking is listening.”

#3 - Morgan Freeman in Lean on Me, “This is an institution of learning, ladies and gentlemen. If you can’t control it, how can you teach? Discipline is not the enemy of enthusiasm!”

#4 - Geoffrey Canada of the Kipp Academy in Waiting for Superman, Instead of a national curriculum for education,
what is really needed is an individual curriculum for every child.”

#5 - Richard Dreyfuss in Mr. Holland’s Opus, “A teacher has two jobs; fill young minds with knowledge, yes, but more important, give those minds a compass so that knowledge doesn’t go to waste.”

#6 - Jack Black in School of Rock, “I’m a teacher. All I need are minds for molding.”

#7 - Will Smith in The Pursuit of Happyness, “I’m the type of person that if you ask me a question and I don’t know the answer, I’m gonna tell you that I don’t know. But I bet you want, I know how to find the answer and I will find the answer.”

#8 - Sean Connery in Finding Forester, “Do not hire a someone who does your work for money, but someone who does it for the love of it.”

#9 - Michelle Pfeiffer in Dangerous Minds, “I will keep my classroom safe for you to learn, there are no victims in my classroom?”

Teachers as Technology Trailblazers "let the students and teachers decide K-12" #edchat #k12

Here is a great piece of learning about Trailblazers in education and what it means for the K-12 Classroom. Best decision is to let teachers and students decide the learning :) They will care more about it!

Steve Jobs: Visionary Genius Doc - I recommend this on Netflix #apple #stevejobs #netflix

I saw this hour long doc last night called Steve Jobs: Visionary Genius on Netflix.
http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/Steve_Jobs_Visionary_Genius/70254178?locale=en-US

It was a very engaging and informative look at the man. He is seen as the most important inventor since Thomas Edison. It is incredible see how many things he was involved in besides Apple, inc. I mean his investment in Pixar and every other invention is mentioned in this riveting doc. Highly Recommended!

What is Google Doing? Hardware giants on the way... Great article #edlearning #google #winning

This intrigued me... especially the part where they mention the Nexus and Google's lack of working with the users along the way. I am curious if you have had any issues with Google Hardware products?
My chromebook rocks and is currently working just fine for me :)

DMA visit is inspiring for all #moderart

Our family had a wonderful time at the DMA - Dallas Museum of Art yesterday. The general collection included a traveling exhibit by Loren Mosley from Austin, which was incredible.

Also, we saw pieces from the greats such as Picasso, Van Gogh, Modrian, Seraut, and Chagall.

I highly recommend this FREE experience.
Also there is loads of technology for kids in the Children's art room.
